Special guided tour for school classes

Hands-on mining

Immerse yourself in the history of modern Harz mining.

During this 2 1/2 hour programme, school children can experience at first hand what the working day of an Upper Harz miner in Bad Grund was like. Why did the miners hang their working clothes under the roof? How did a large excavator get into the middle of the mountain? Why did the miners need a mini "Eiffel Tower"? These and many other questions will be answered during an interactive tour through the museum exhibition, outdoor areas and of course in the mining gallery.

Special highlights: Under the supervision of experienced guides, an old mine railway locomotive is put into operation above ground. Through "stone hammering" underground it quickly becomes clear how difficult it was to work with hammer and pick (chisel), the traditional tools of the old miners.

Option: Eichelberger Wasserlauf

If desired, an underground water transport tunnel can additionally be visited. Rubber boots can be provided. Please tell us your boot sizes.

Duration: around 2.5 hours

Suitable for children 8 years and older

For younger children, an adventure tour suitable for their age group can be booked. Please get in touch with us.
